There’s something happening here…
In July 2018 we reopened our new website with this intriguing piece of news: we were recording a new album but we won’t be posting about it in the networks nor release it on the digital platforms. Are we nuts? And what’s happened in these EIGHT years?
Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans…
(John Lennon’s handy quote, saving the day one more time)
I think this requires an explanation.
Social networks and digital platforms
By then, we were about to leave Twitter for good. And it wasn’t nearly close to the dumpster fire that it is today, lead by that sinister character.
Spotify’s little-big-chief still wasn’t investing in military weapons powered by artificial intelligence, but he already despised musicians, those lowly “content providers”. A content that according to him is easier than ever to manufacture. It’s true that our music remains in Spotify for the moment, but we don’t pay the Premium subscription anymore.
Por aquél entonces ya estábamos a punto de abandonar Twitter, y eso que no era ni de lejos el estercolero que es hoy, con ese siniestro personaje al frente.
The record and the winding road
The recording sessions had already started in May 2018. We had -and have- material for a pair of albums. We progressed slowly, combining our plans and life itself. We put out a compilation album. There were shows and other proyects. The songs were still there.
But there was a lot of work ahead, many songs to finish, many edges to be polished.
A few months later we had the happy idea of taking a short detour to record our electric version of “Nebraska”. We recorded it in Satélite Estudios, mastered it in Abbey Road and put it out in October 2019. We went ahead and scheduled a couple shows to premiere the album on March 2020. We played the first of those two shows.
The impossible happened.
And then time started to liquify even more than usual. There were some recordings, some shows, some more plans changed by life’s demands… and what happened to those songs? And can anybody tell me what time it is, or better, what year it is?
What happened with those songs?
Those songs were left waiting for better days to get them finished, without knowing that there’s no better day than to day to finish a song, except for yesterday. Waiting to have more time, as if one could ever have more time instead of less.
So the moment is now. Already. There’s no other.
We’re back to the notebook, the crumpled pages, the recording studio. Back to setting impossible deadlings (as we’ve always done) so there’s no other thing to do but meeting them.
And we’re back to the stage to introduce the songs of our two new records. Yes we are: we’ll be seeing you in May 2025 in Madrid and Oviedo, on two of our favorite venues.
We don’t promise to retell the story here and we don’t know what will happen with the social networks and the digital platforms. But we know there will be music.
